On December 7th, 2024, on behalf of the UH Knights of Columbus, Grand Knight David Bartlett was gifted a stunning display of the Holy Eucharist at the State Mid-Year Meeting by Texas State Deputy Ron Alonzo, the gentleman who runs the state of Texas for the Knights. It is only one of six of its kind in existence, and it was awarded to the UH Knights for their astonishing growth (now having reached #1 in the nation by percentage) and successes in their programs. This display, which has now become a beautiful addition to the family of incredible artwork and craftsmanship located in our Newman Center, is a testament to what faith in unity and brotherhood can achieve in the name of God.
The UH Knights, Council 15105, were originally chartered in 2010. Ever since its foundation it had been an exceptional council, zealous in its commitments and resilient in its missions. However, in recent times it has made strides it had never seen before. In an explosive vigor, it has brought together a group of nearly 30 men to find what kind of gifts the Lord had created within them. In cookouts, prayer groups, men’s groups, volunteering, altar serving, rosary groups, faith and community programs, and in just helping Fr. Quang out, it helped our young men here at the Newman find their mission. They often came with a fire to serve, a fire with many qualities, but a fire without a set direction.
Our mission is to be instruments of God’s work, and for our mission He creates unique gifts within us. It is a journey to figure out what these gifts are and then use them for God’s calling. In the Knights of Columbus, men find their calling through action. Here at UH, they have done just that, and here they have also done the Lord’s work
